I have reviewed a couple different brands of chalk markers and knew what to expect.  Well I took a black chalk marker from one of the other sets and colored the chalkboard easel.  I figured it would give me a fresh start and you wouldn’t be able to see the bleed through from the other times I tried chalk markers.

I really needed a sign for S’s first day of kindergarten.  I wanted to make it with “The Chalkanator” Liquid Chalk Markers and that is exactly why I bought this easel.  With this blank canvas I went ahead and penciled in the design.  The chalk markers have the option to either use a chiseled or round tip.

I have found the round tip writes smoother than the chiseled edge.  I went color by color traced the outline of the letters and filled in the letter with a scribble.  I love the look of chalkmarkers, but these markers leaked like crazy.  When I would pump the marker to get more ink in the tip, some of the markers would have the liquid just run right out.  They made quite a mess and I was glad I was doing this outside.  I went back to use a couple of colors again and when I took the cap off it was a mess.  There was liquid chalk everywhere.

While it was a messy project, I love the way it turned out.  The photos I took of S on his first day of Kindergarten turned out great and I cannot wait to scrapbook them.

I didn’t even try to wash off the easel because I am planning to use it on the last day of school.  The only thing I have to do is change the 1st to Last, and the date.  Instead of trying to wash off the lettering I am just going to color over it again.  These markers only wash off of non-porous surface.  The chalkboard I used was on wood that was porous so the markers would absorb through to the wood.
