Sawyer 51 Month Update
We broke some big news to S in the past 3 months. We told S he was going to be a big brother. It didn’t seem to faze him either way and it was just matter of fact for him. For Christmas S got a drum set and guitar from Santa. We had S tell everyone he was going to be a big brother by wearing a t-shirt. He really liked all the attention and that was what it was about, making sure he felt included.
There have been record breaking amounts of snow this winter and really cold weather. S has not been able to play outside in the snow that much because it has been severely cold out (like negative degrees). S has loved when he has been able to play outside in the snow and we have built tunnels, seats, and snowmen out of the snow. We also tried something new and spray painted snowmen onto the huge pile of snow we have at the end of our cul-de-sac.
Even though we have had cold weather, S has continued to go to zoo school once a week and discovered new animals. They set up a butterfly house exhibit that we visited almost every week. S loved having the butterflies flying all over him and then landing on his hand for him to check out. S finally got all of his 100 checkmarks and was rewarded with a trip to Chuckie Cheese. He loved going and says he cannot wait to get more checkmarks so he can go again.
The weather is kind of starting to break and S has been able to get outside and ride his bikes or drive his truck in the driveway a few times. He has also learned how to fly a kite in the past week and loved it. Next time we have another nice day that is windy we will get out another kite (we lost the last one in a tree) and try it again. In the last three months S has pretty much stayed at the same weight and is still 38.5 lbs. He has grown some and now is 41 inches tall. That is an increase of almost an inch in the past three months.

Sawyer 4 Year Old Update
Although I never got around to doing a 4 year old update, I figured I would do one and include it with the 51 Month Update. S has been up to so much in the past three months. We have been playing outside as much as possible. S tends to spend a ton of time with Daddy over at Grandpa B’s helping to build the garage and driving his truck all over the yard.
This year for Halloween S was a handyman. The weather did not cooperate with us so we used our back up outfit and he wore his handyman raincoat since it is lined. The rain did not stop us from trick-or-treating and went out in the morning to all the local businesses. Actual trick-or-treating was cancelled due to the weather and rescheduled for a week later. S preferred to hand candy out at Grandma’s instead of going out. He decided to venture out after a while and we went out for only about 20 minutes before S was done and wanted to go back and hand out candy. S has started going to zoo school which is an enrichment class once a week for an hour. He really enjoys going to the class to learn about animals and getting to touch and see live animals. I love that Daddy takes him to this class as his schedule allows and it give me a little break and them some one on one bonding time.
We started a few new reward systems for S. One is he has to get 100 checkmarks for trying new food and he gets to go to Chuckie Cheese as a reward. Trying new food is really about getting him to eat different combos of food. For example, ham on his pizza, plain milk instead of strawberry flavored milk, or veggies as is not blended in a smoothie. S has really been making progress and discovered that he likes pasta. We have been trying to get him to eat pasta for four years and he has outright refused. Now he is all about pasta, loves mac ‘n’ cheese, and Spagettio’s. We have been doing if you take a bite you get a checkmark or two, if you finish your serving you get additional checkmarks. The other reward system is getting a star for every night he sleeps in his bed all night without yelling for mommy or trying to sneak in bed with mommy. When he gets all of his stars (42) he will finally get a fish tank for his bedroom.
For S’s birthday this year B and I took S to Kalahari for his birthday. We actually went the day before his birthday and spent the night there. S had so much fun playing in the water and playing in the arcade. When we got home we had a small get together and S got a Thomas the Train cake. He loved having “kids” (as he calls them), there to play with. We kept his birthday simple this year and it was just cake and ice cream, a little playing, presents and that was it. S has really grown in the last three months he is now 40 1/16 inches tall and weighs 38.5 lbs. That is an increase of just under an inch in height and he gained 3 ½ pounds. Over the last year S has grown just under 3 inches and gained about 6 pounds. He is turning into quite the big boy.
