I have been waiting for the day when S will learn to tie a shoelace. I remember being little trying to figure it out. I was so made that my twin did it before me. With the way shoes are made now they use all these straps and a Velcro at the end. S has never had to even try to shoe yet. He is five and half and the only shoes he has ever had that have laces are his dress shoes that he wears maybe two or three times a year.
I have been trying to convince S to learn to tie shoes and he says, “Why, my shoes don’t need to be tied.” Technically, he is true but when he gets older his shoes will need to be tied, or will they? I basically only wear two types of shoes, tennis shoes or flip-flops.
I never really got why people love Velcro and non-tie shoes until I was given the opportunity to try No Tie Elastic Shoelaces by Lemon Hero. I decided to go ahead and put these in my new tennis shoes and give them a try. I always lace up my shoes so I can slip them on and off without having to tie them. These laces actually allow this.
The hardest thing with the laces was deciding on which color I should order. There were nine different color choices. I went plain and chose dark grey laces. When I got them in the mail I was eager to try them. The directions were pretty simple and were very easy to assemble. After weaving them through the holes, I needed to trim off the excess string so I could put the two ends in the plastic cap to prevent them from slipping.
One shoe I trimmed the laces too short. After that I figured out to leave extra string and the other shoe is just right. It doesn’t really make a difference that the one shoe lace is too short. It would only ever be a problem if I had a swollen foot and needed to extend the shoelace.
I have been wearing them for a few weeks now and they are very comfortable. The laces flex when I walk because of the elastic so there doesn’t seem to be as much pull on my feet. They have been super comfortable and I have really enjoyed wearing them. Now I understand why kids love to wear straps with Velcro instead of tying shoelaces.
