I got this box back in December and could not wait to open it and see exactly what Hershey Kisses products I was getting. I never got around to using the Hershey Kisses at Christmas time, but thought they would make great Valentine’s Day cookies. I mean they are red and white stripe which go great with Valentine’s Day.

I received the Candy Cane flavored Hershey Kisses. I have purchased these in the past and love them. I really like white chocolate and this is the perfect mixture of white chocolate and candy cane flavor. There also seem to be small (I mean tiny), bits of candy canes within the kisses.

I don’t think you can make the traditional blossom cookies that are peanut butter flavored and use this candy cane flavored kiss. I decided to make the blossom cookie using sugar cookie dough as the base of the cookie.

I have learned from the first time I ever tried to cook blossom cookies which was 12 years ago when B and I still lived in our first house how not to make blossom cookies. I stuck the Hershey kisses in the cookies before I cooked them. Every batch I took out of the oven I couldn’t understand how others got the kisses to keep their shape because mine ended up as runny blobs. I baked the entire batch of blossom cookies and again every kiss melted during the baking process. Well when B got home from work he informed me that you don’t put the kisses on the cookies until after the cookies have baked in the oven. Well that makes a ton of sense.

S and I made sugar cookies. We decorated them three different ways. I have no idea what I always seem to do wrong, but I put the kisses on after the sugar cookies were taken out of the oven and they still melted. With the last batch of cookies I pulled out of the oven I waited for five minutes to let them cool before I stuck the kisses in. I must have waited too long because they did not stick into the cookies and when I pushed hard enough the cookies cracked. #MERRYKISSMAS

For the second cookie, I did just plain red icing and sprinkles and the third cookie I cut out tiny hearts before I cooked them. After the cookies were baked I filled the hearts in with chocolate and put red stripes of chocolate on the top. These cookies have been a big hit in the house this week. It has been hard to keep S’s hands off of them. Every time I put P down for a nap, I am pretty sure S is sneaking some because I have found red icing on his face that he didn’t know was there.

A few years ago S, F (S’s cousin), and I made rings out of Hershey Kisses for Valentine’s Day. S was not really into wearing the rings because he said they were for girls. We went ahead and made rings for F to give to her mom and S to give to B when he got home from work. To make each ring it took two pipe cleaners and little bit of bending and twisting.
