Foto (Photo) Friday is a show and tell of pics from the past week. This week is all about P’s birthday. I didn’t get the best pictures so I did my best with what I had. After I finished this, I did get the pictures from B’s parents and they definitely filled in what I was missing.
- With B being on strike I really worked hard to try and make as many of the decorations as I could myself. I started with a birthday banner for P. I had seen many different bubble birthday banners online and could not figure out how to make it look like bubbles. Well I finally figured it out. I had to add the ring reinforcements so that the holes would not rip when I put the ribbon through it. I ended up having to trim the ribbons down because they were overtaking the bubbles. When it was all said and done, I loved the way the banner turned out.
- I really wanted to make these marshmallow fish pops that I saw. They looked so cool and I thought they would make great desserts and decorations at the same time. These were the perfect touch to my dessert table. I plan on doing a posts of the steps on how I made these, but this gives you a preview/idea of how it was done.
- Present time!!!!! Before P took her morning nap we had her open her gift from S and us. We got P a Mega Blok set that just happen to be called Bobby’s Barnyard. S got her some extra Mega Blok people. When it came present time for the party we decided to get out the bubble balloon pool and have P open all her presents sitting in the pool. Well P and S started out in the pool but it was a little overwhelming for P so B ended up in the pool with them.
- I made cupcakes for everyone else, but P got her own personal cake. Since she was our “little fish” turning one she had to have a fish cake. I tried to make the cake healthier and more flavorful than a box mix. P loves bananas so I made a banana cake with a banana frosting. No I did not use banana extract, it was all bananas. The cake turned out great. It was like a dry cakey banana bread. The frosting was bananas, powdered sugar, and a little bit of shortening. It tasted great and I could not of asked for a better frosting.
- P loves food so I thought for sure she would dive right into this. We have never given her any frosting or cake so I didn’t know how she would do with sugar. She followed in her brother’s footsteps and showed very little interest in the cake and frosting. S came up and asked if he could eat one of the fins. I gave him one and he carried it off to eat. When he returned he reported that the cake tasted really good. P on the other hand played a little with the frosting, and despite the many attempts people made to get her to play with her cake she refused. Clean-up afterward was pretty easy. I gave her a quick bath but there wasn’t much cake or frosting on her.
- This was supposed to be a bubble party but somehow the barrel train took over the party. All the kids wanted to ride the train. From P’s younger cousin to her oldest cousin that is 16 they all took turns getting rides. Who would have thought it would be so popular with kids of every age. S got tired of riding the barrel train and begged to get out his Crazy Cart. Of course B let him and when he got that out S’s cousin L asked if he could get out the race car. Of course my niece wanted to show off her driving skills and took the little F-150 for a ride. She is 16 and can drive a real car but I think she wants to show she can still be a kid.
- All I have to say about this picture is, what happen to my upper lip? Somehow it got lost and I don’t what happen to it. P was so happy after waking up from her morning nap and I loved the headband.
- Despite the rain that kept reappearing the kids would not be deterred from blowing bubbles. They had there choice of colored, scented or regular bubbles to chose from.
- Everyone having a good time eating and enjoying good company.
- S was so happy when L showed up that he stopped playing in the sandbox and ran out to greet L. They always hug each other like they haven’t seen each other in years. In all reality I think it was less than a week since the last time they saw each other. They hung out together the rest of the day.
- P was hanging out with my sister and brother. She was okay with people holding her which is not always the case.
- Although it was at the end of the party, we managed to get a picture of the three of us. S said he didn’t want to get in the picture. No problem.
- Our Build-A-Bear tradition continues. When S was a newborn someone (his cousins) got him a Build-A-Bear, and we let him get one every year for his birthday. We figured we would do it until he was five and then he could decided after that if he wanted to keep doing it. Well when P was born we let S go and make a Build-A-Bear for P. This year she got to go and continue the tradition. Since she is obviously too small to pick out her own we narrowed it down and then let her decide. We narrowed it down to a bunny or yorkie. She grabbed the yorkie which seemed appropriate since we had just lost Derby. She was really excited with the dog after it was stuffed.
