Foto (Photo) Friday is a show and tell of pics from the past week. I was going to do this on Thursday night but I was just plain tired and decided to not even crack open my computer. The weekend simply got away from me. I had so much stuff come up that I hadn’t planned on and was super tired. I fell asleep on the couch every night. I thought I was just going to lie down on the couch for a second and the next thing I knew it would be 2 or 3 in the morning. My plan was to always do an Easter weekend recap so I guess better late than never.
Friday
- This year we tried something new and I decided to try dying eggs with shaving cream. The kids decorated eggs with Baby L and A like they did last year. Each kid got to decorate 3 eggs. All I have to say is what a mess. It was so messy. I wore gloves so that my hands did not get colored. It still managed to get on the kids hands and mine. I thought the colors would be stronger on the eggs, but everyone was happy with how there eggs turned out. I can safely say we will never dye eggs with shaving cream again. Next year we will try something different or go back to using the egg spinner.
Saturday
- We got up in the morning and hung out watching TV. After watching a few Easter shows in the morning we got ready and headed out to Whitehouse to do an egg hunt with my aunt and uncle. We have done this almost every year since P was born. The kids love doing it and I love that they get to have these special memories. P and my aunt figured out at strategy for P to run ahead and forget the eggs in the grass and get all the eggs around the trees. It totally worked and was so funny to watch. When it got to S’s turn my uncle described him as a Hoover because he just ran around sucking up eggs. P fell asleep on the way home and it was only 12:30pm. She usually hits her wall at 3pm. I should have known something was up when she fell asleep that early. Well the joke was on me when she got sick later that day on the way to the helicopter egg drop. Thankfully she only got sick that one time but it was enough for me.
Sunday
- The kids woke up bright and early in the morning (well S did, P slept until about 8:30ish). P was beyond excited and could not wait to check out her Easter basket. I convinced them to go do the egg hunt after S read the letter from the Easter bunny before we did the baskets. The kids had a blast looking for there eggs outside in the backyard. Dinky ran around with them not quite sure what the kids were doing or looking for. It didn’t take long for the kids to find all there eggs. We went back inside and they opened there eggs and dug in there baskets to see what the Easter bunny brought them. They both loved what they got and never complain about not getting candy. They just think it is normal in our house for the Easter bunny to not bring them candy and I love it.
- Since we didn’t go to the helicopter egg drop last night because P got sick we decided to make sure we went this morning as long as P was okay. She was back to her usual spunky self. They were both so excited for the helicopter to come. While S remembers it from last year, I am not sure if P really remembers anything since she is still so young. Very few people turned out for the egg hunt and there were a ton of eggs. P and S had the pick of as many eggs as they wanted and much to my chagrin they both got tired of getting eggs before there bag or bucket were even full. At one point another kid was helping them fill there bags with eggs. If only I could have got the eggs for them. I didn’t and only took pictures. I did not let the kids stop until there bucket and bag were full of eggs. It usually takes about 5 minutes for all of the kids to get all of the eggs. Since there were so few kids we were done after 20 minutes and the other kids were still getting the eggs. When we got home the kids wanted to open the eggs and check out the loot they had. When I put all of the eggs back together we had about 2/3 of a garbage bag. That is about the same amount of eggs we have gotten in the past 5 years combined. They were both happy with what they got and just wanted to play with the new toys they got in there Easter baskets.
I would say this year was another success. The kids had a great time hunting for eggs. Now that S is old enough he knows about why we really have Easter and I love that he knows the religious reasons behind why we celebrate this holiday. On another note, I played a pretty good prank on my neighbor’s son, A. He is almost 5 and I was watching him that week. We watched Prep & Landing which is a Christmas show about stealth elves who get houses ready for Santa. Well when it was over they were all talking about who is on the good and bad list (I know it is Nice & Naughty but this is what they were calling them). I told them you want to know how you can tell now if you are on the bad list…..jelly beans. He looked stunned at me. I asked him if he knew where jelly beans came from. Of course, he didn’t so I told him they were Easter bunny poop. The Easter bunny only puts jelly beans in your basket if you are on the bad list to let you know so you can change your behavior. He didn’t believe me so I asked S, “Have you ever got jelly beans in your Easter basket?” He responds, “Nope, never.” I asked P the same question and she also said no. Of course, A, does not know that my kids don’t get candy in there Easter basket and my kids still believe so they all played right into it. My kids started chanting that they were on the good list and A just said I don’t want jelly beans for Easter. I could not stop laughing and will never forget this so I can tell other children the same story in years to come.
