Foto Friday-A Birthday Week Recap for S!

Foto Friday

Foto (Photo) Friday is a show and tell of pics from this past week.  This week I am solely dedicating to a recap of S’s birthday week.  While we normally do stuff for a few days, this year it was a full week because of school and B working.

  • S was so excited when he woke up the morning of his birthday.  I did manage to get him to wait for a few hours before we woke B up to open presents.  S got a marble obstacle course, and a small carrying case for Hot Wheels cars.
  • I made two cakes for S’s party.  With cake pans like this one never seems to be enough.  I made a blue car to replicate a Hot Wheels Beetle S picked out.  The cake itself was carrot with a homemade cream cheese frosting.  Lightning McQueen was a white and chocolate marble cake per S’s request.  The funny thing is he never even ate the marble cake.  He wanted carrot instead.

  • I can’t believe how big he looks.  B bought trick candles for S which S totally did not get.  He was confused why the candles kept relighting.
  • B set up the 6 lane, 8 foot track (he extended it much farther) to race new Hot Wheel cars.  Each child got two new cars to race down the lanes to see who was the fastest.  There was no clear winner because different cars would win every time.  B also made a return track to send the cars back to the beginning of the ramp.

  • S was hilarious when it came time to opening gifts.  I had no intention of even opening gifts.  I thought everyone would just bring them unwrapped.  So at the end of the night I let him open the presents.  He would open the present, examine it, and then say keep or donate.  Some gifts people would give intending for S to keep and he would say “Donate.”  Other gifts were meant to be donated and he would say, “Keep.”  Because he is only 6 I let him keep the gifts he wanted.  As you can see from the boxes he had one box of donated toys and one box of donated food for the local Breadbasket.  He did however keep the Ultimate Garage he got from Grandma G.

  • They both looked so cute and were so excited to get in the water at Kalahari.  We were not sure about P but she ran straight for the water and was as happy as could be.

  • S was more about swimming than he was the slides this time.  I think this may have been our last time at Kalahari.  Since S is all about swimming why not just go to a hotel where he can swim.
  • P had no fear in the water and happily floated on her back in the water.  She really does love the water.

  • S really loves playing the arcade games.  He was happy to let P play some of the games with him.  When it comes to steering wheels P tends to take control and try to drive no matter if it is an arcade game, Power Wheels, or real car.
  • S was flying a helicopter and P was happy to just sit and watch.

  • P was very content to sit and color while we waited for our breakfast.  I hope she continues to like to color like I do.
  • S had enough tokens to play one more game.  We watched the night before kids winning a ton of tickets on the games behind S.  He played one time and won 80 tickets.  He was totally geeked.

  • The last task for S’s birthday is our annual trip to Build-A-Bear.  B and I thought this would be a fun tradition to do with the kids.  We would do it until they were 5 and after that they could decide if they wanted to continue doing it.  It was never a question for S.  He loves going.  Of course, he picked the Grinch.
  • They were having a deal 2 for $35 on select animals.  Well the Grinch was $25 and they just happen to have Max.  So P got Max for $10.  We had to explain to S that if he wanted P to get Max it was okay, but he would not get one when it was her birthday.  He was okay with it, I think because he really wanted to get the Grinch and Max.
