I have always wanted to use silicone baking mats. They seem to be able to accomplish two things at one time. I don’t have to use cooking spray, the food won’t stick to the mat, and I won’t have to wash the cookie sheets because they are covered by the silicone mats. Once I got the hang of using the silicone mats they worked out pretty well.
I was making Dr. Pepper chocolate cookies. They are super easy to make but do have any oil in them so they will stick to the pan without using a ton of cooking spray.
Dr. Pepper chocolate cookies
Ingredients
1 box of chocolate cake mix
1 can of dr. Pepper
Mix the chocolate cake mix and 6-8 oz of Dr. Pepper until the consistency of cookie dough. Add more Dr. Pepper if needed. Preheat the oven to 350°. drop spoonfuls onto parchment paper or silicone mats and bake for 10 min.
These really are easy to make. The trick is to make sure you let the cookies cool enough before you get them off the cookie sheets. They also have to cook long enough but not burn. My brother loves these cookies and are a win with his family.
The first sheet I tried to get the cookies off of I did not let them cook long enough and they stuck to the silicone mat. The second sheet I let cool long enough but did not let cook long enough. The cookies needed the entire 10 minutes and I gave them about 3 minutes to cool and it worked. The cookies peeled right off the silicone mat without any problems. Every batch after that came off like clockwork.
I wondered how it would be cleaning the silicone mats. If you can put them in high temperatures in the oven, why can’t you put them in the dishwasher? The mats say that they are not dishwasher safe. I hand washed the mat with soap. The mat was easy to wash, but I hate having to hand wash any dishes. I didn’t have to wash the cookie sheets. I cleaned them with a dry dish towel and put them away. Either way I have to hand wash something either the mat or the cookie sheet. The pro to the silicone mat is that I didn’t have to use any cooking spray on the mats eliminating the extra calories and fat. That just means I can eat one more cookie and justify it!
