I applied through Mom’s Ambassador to try this product and review it on my blog. I was happy when I received an email telling me I had been selected to try Zevia soda. I am an avid drinker of Coke so I could not wait to compare and see how this soda compared. I received a 24-pack of Zevia soda. I ended up getting 12 different flavors, two of each flavor.
Zevia is the original naturally sweetened, zero calorie soda with no sugar and no artificial sweeteners. This tasty treat comes in 15 familiar, favorite flavors including Cola, Black Cherry, Cream Soda, Grapefruit Citrus and Ginger Ale. Zevia Zero Calorie Soda is sweetened naturally with a unique blend of high purity Stevia (grown right here in the US!) and Monk Fruit. No worries! It’s totally Kosher, Vegan, and Gluten-Free! The retail price for a 6-pack of Zevia ranges from $3.99 to $5.99.
To try all of these sodas there was no way I was going to be able to drink 24 cans so I gave half to my mom so she and my dad could sample the flavors and give me their feedback. I kept the other 12 cans so that B and I could sample the sodas. I wanted to get a true sense of what four different people thought of the sodas and flavors. My mom is an avid Pepsi drinker, my dad drinks 7up, B drinks Dr. Pepper and I drink Coke. Since we all like totally different flavors of soda I was curious if we would all have the same opinions. I got 12 out of the 15 flavors which included: Ginger Root Beer, Mountain Zevia, Ginger Ale, Dr. Zevia, Grapefruit Citrus, Lemon Lime Twist, Black Cherry, Cola, Caffeine Free Cola, Orange, Cream Soda, and Grape. Flavors I did not receive were Strawberry, Cherry Cola, and Lime Cola.
B and I finally found some time to sit down together and try each flavor. I am going to try to let you know what I thought of each based on scent, taste, and likeliness to name brand soda. First off, let me just say that I did not care for the taste of Zevia at all. I am not a fan of diet soda and this definitely has the flavor of diet soda. Although, it does not have artificial sweeteners like diet soda it does have Stevia and Monk Fruit. I am not sure if they are what give it an after taste or what. After you take a sip, it takes a few minutes for that after taste to go away. Once you get past that artificial taste, here is what my opinion is of each soda.
Ginger Root Beer
Scent: Not even close to any Root Beer I have ever smelled.
Taste: Tasted like a generic Root Beer barrel candy.
Likeliness to Brand: A&W or Dad’s Root Beer-not even close.
Mountain Zevia
Scent: Did not have citrus scent of name brand soda.
Taste: Tasted like no soda I have ever had before. Had a gagging reaction from the flavor.
Likeliness to Brand: Mountain Dew-not even close.
Ginger Ale
Scent: Had a ginger scent to it.
Taste: Did not have a good ginger ale flavor.
Likeliness to Brand: Canadian Dry Ginger Ale or Vernor’s-Made my nose tickle like Vernor’s does, not even close to either as far as flavor.
Dr. Zevia
Scent: Did not smell like Dr. Pepper to me.
Taste: It tasted like a Dr. Pepper that went really bad.
Likeliness to Brand: Dr. Pepper-Tasted nothing like Dr. Pepper.
Grapefruit Citrus
Scent: Very citrusy
Taste: Not a good flavor to it.
Likeliness to Brand: Squirt-It had the same flavor as Squirt but not a good after taste.
Lemon Lime Twist
Scent: Has the sugary citrus scent of lemon lime soda.
Taste: Did not have the taste of lemon lime soda, tasted way too much like artificial sugar
Likeliness to Brand: Sprite/7up-I would say it was closer to 7up than Sprite. I think Sprite has a sweeter taste compared to 7up.
Black Cherry
Scent: Loved the smell. Reminded me of cherries.
Taste: Don’t mind the taste. Has a cherry flavor.
Likeliness to Brand: ?-Don’t really know a name brand that makes black cherry. I liked the cherry flavor.
Cola
Scent: Had caramel soda scent.
Taste: Did not taste like Coke or Pepsi, or even a generic cola.
Likeliness to Brand: Coca-Cola/Pepsi-Not even close.
Caffeine Free Cola
Scent: Had caramel soda scent.
Taste: Did not taste like any soda I have had before.
Likeliness to Brand: Caffeine Free Coca-Cola-Not even close to Coke or Pepsi for that matter.
Orange
Scent: Smelled like oranges.
Taste: Had an artificial orange flavor.
Likeliness to Brand: Sunkist-Not the same in taste. Almost has an orange extract flavor instead of how the name brand tastes.
Cream Soda
Scent: Smelled just like cream soda.
Taste: Similar to cream soda.
Likeliness to Brand: A&W Cream Soda-Smelled like the name brand and had the sweetness of the name brand.
Grape
Scent: Smelled like grape soda.
Taste: Tasted like grape soda.
Likeliness to Brand: No real brand to compare but tasted similar to grape sodas I have had before.
Overall, I was not a fan of Zevia sodas. I gave it a fair opinion. If you can get past the Stevia/Monk Fruit Sweetener taste or if you like the taste of them then you could really enjoy Zevia soda.
