How to Decorate Your Trees Outside with Easter Eggs!

IMG_0379

S loves to decorate for holidays.  I have to say I think he gets it from me.  For Easter, it doesn’t really work to hang lights outside.  Not saying you couldn’t, I just have no idea where I would find some that were cheap enough.  Would they really look like Easter eggs or just Christmas lights?  At Christmas we hang bulbs off the trees so why not do what we did when I was little.  Hang plastic Easter eggs from the tree branches.  Good idea, but how am I going to get the eggs to stay together and not crack open?  Well I needed to figure out a way. People have been doing this forever, how do they all do it and how can I do it better?  I needed to solve these few issues to make a hanging Easter egg that would not crack open, fall apart, or lose its string when the spring winds pick-up.

Items needed to create Hanging Easter Eggs

  • Plastic Easter Eggs-the amount you need depends on how many you want to hang.
  • A spool of string-Cut lengths of string to 8 inches long. You will need the same amount of strings as you have eggs.
  • A drill with a small drill bit.

1.  I scoured through my bag of plastic eggs and go figure they were not matched up last year so I had to find matches for all the eggs. I had to make sure the eggs tops and bottom match in color (it’s a necessity for me), get enough for all the trees, and make sure they snap together tightly.

2.  Drill a hole in the center top and bottom of each egg.

3.  Take the 8” length of string, fold it in half, and knot the end of the two strings.

4.  Take the folded half of the string and feed it through the bottom half of the egg.

5.  Once the string is through the bottom half of the egg, feed it through the top half of the egg.

6.  Snap the egg together, pull the string tight, and create another knot of the top of the egg.

That’s it!  It is a simple project to do and relatively quick.  It took longer for S to drive his truck around and figure out which eggs were going to go on which tree than it did for me to assemble them.  I love the overall look of the eggs hanging from the trees.  It makes our yard look so springy.
